Our Wildlife Habitat

We are a nonprofit (501c3) and our mission is to support native species by educating people about the importance of native plantings and to help them create and maintain beautiful wildlife habitats in their gardens.

What we do

We bring our expertise in sustainable gardening to people’s gardens. Through a series of free consultations, we will advise, design and oversee the creation of a wildlife habitat on private property. Whether you just want to convert a portion of your lawn to a pollinator garden, to replace the more invasive of your nonnative “introduced” plants, or just add a few really beneficial natives, we can help.  And if you would like to work toward creating a complete and nourishing wildlife habitat, we can guide you through every step of the way. Our Wildlife Habitat even has our own habitat certification and once you have fulfilled all the requirements- based on the National Wildlife Federation’s guidelines - you will get a small garden sign to inspire your neighbors to do the same.

“What if each American landowner made it a goal to convert half of his or her lawn to productive native plant communities? Even moderate success could collectively restore some semblance of ecosystem function to more than twenty million acres of what is now ecological wasteland. How big is twenty million acres? It's bigger than the combined areas of the Everglades, Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Teton, Canyonlands, Mount Rainier, North Cascades, Badlands, Olympic, Sequoia, Grand Canyon, Denali, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Parks.”
-Doug Tallamy, Nature’s Best Hope

Following the National Wildlife Federation’s certification guidelines for a wildlife habitat- Our Wildlife Habitat will certify your garden as a wildlife habitat and provide you with a small garden sign to proudly display.
